My awake drug
Has done its job
It’s one AM
That and hot flashes
And here I am
Poem in my hand
Brain full on
Away I go
I start the chemo morning
A Flowered shirt
Brightens the day
At my first blood draw
Putting in my catheter
Right arm I know
As in the left
Too many valves
To all the nurses
And Shoshana too
A wonderful PA-C
You all work so well
So hard
And are there
Taking care
Of all the Chemo people
I thank all you
I know your job is hard
Just being there
Sometimes
On your day off too
You answer the call
We need more
And there you are
The way you dance around
From floor to floor
Taking blood
The nurse that guide me to the room
We talk movies
Star wars
R2D2
I whistle that for you
And of course the Princess Bride
You say something from that
Then one of my main nurses comes in
Abby first and Hanna later
Hope I got there names right
Others pop in and out
Their names escape my brain
And if I got them wrong
I think I will blame that
On chemo insane
As my CHH-Complete Metabolic
Did not make it far
Chemo on hold
Until it’s done
At first we thought
I was a lucky few
To have my tube of blood
In the lab be like glue
So more blood you take
And send to the lab
Waiting for my results
We find out one of the lab
Machines broke
Maybe one of the centrifuges
Choked
So a manual process
They must do
Takes about an extra hour 10
But I am not blue
I get the results and away we go
Again you nurses
Taking care
Of all the patients
That are there
I see your face
And the way you
Smile
Even with labs
Taking long
You are not blue
And talk with joy
Cool shoes
You talk
Laugh
I warn you
I yodel
At first softly I do
But then later
When the first drug is done
I yodel louder
And your smile
Grows with the yodel
I count them in my head
First one for light nausea
Then the second one for heavy nausea
Then Dexamethasone
My wake drug
Now on to my vanilla chemo one
One hour goes by
And the machine beeps
I yodel
A flush
And on to
Chocolate chemo number two
Half and hour
I yodel louder when this is done
And your smile
Grows with the yodel
The blinking light of the
Neulasta Onpro
Blinks green
I still feel
Like an airplane or Kayak life jacket
In event of water landing
Your life jacket lite will blink green
So you can be found
I have been found by all of you
And even rescued
Not a water landing
Then again
All the chemo drugs
Are injected wet
Thanks for pulling me
Out of the water
Your caring is noted
And felt
It’s my fifth chemo
And more feeling come out
I am a positive person
And even more I have been
And still am
Chemo seem to working for me
And for that I am glad
Other feelings come out
More thinking, and feeling
I am a Pisces
My tears come out
Today they are hidden
But not so much
Joy, sadness, fear
I know I don’t share that
When I am there
Yet
Through all
You are all there
Caring
I feel your warmth
And it brings me joy
And helps me get through
My chemo days
Now my fifth one
Is out of the way
One to go
And I know
You are there
WIth all your caring
And smiles and all
And such a wondrous job you do
I know so hard
I think you said
Eighty patents today
Yet how you make me feel
Like the only one
Your caring
Your smiles
How you talk
Educate
And listen
I wish
I could buy you all a beer
Or maybe coffee might bring more cheer
But for me poems it is
To thank you for
Who you are
And where you are
Thanks you so much for being there
I feel that caring
And feel how you dance around
All us patents
With joy
I thank you
With my poem
